Imperfect action beats perfect inaction 100% of the time

Today is just a bunch of raw, unfiltered thoughts from someone who feels deeply called to more — and I know I’m not the only ambitious dreamer who feels this way.

None of us truly have it all together. Who does?

I’ve taken multi-millionaires fishing. Famous people too. People I once assumed had life completely figured out. And when I tell them about my goals, aspirations, and how I still feel like I’m figuring things out, you know what they say?

“Me too.”

That realization hit me hard.

You mean to tell me that the people I look up to — people with the success, wealth, respect, or recognition I once thought would finally bring fulfillment — are still trying to figure life out too?

Yikes.

It really puts things into perspective. The truth is, we’ll never be fully satisfied by worldly success alone. No amount of money, status, or achievement can truly fill that void. That’s why we have to learn to fully rely on the one true God.

Still, I have big dreams and goals. Most days, I feel like I should be farther along than I am. The endless cycle of overthinking and analysis paralysis usually leaves me standing in the exact same place I started.

So I’ve had to remind myself of something simple:

The only difference between who I am now and the future I aspire to become is the willingness to keep showing up and start.

Imperfect action beats perfect inaction every single time.

If you feel a pull on your heart to do something different — something meaningful — don’t ignore it. I’m not talking about chasing internet fame or going viral on TikTok. I mean something you genuinely care about. Something you believe could impact people. Something you know the world needs.

What are you waiting for?

“It may help to think of it this way. If you were meant to cure cancer or write a symphony or crack cold fusion and you don't do it, you not only hurt yourself, even destroy yourself. You hurt your children. You hurt me. You hurt the planet. You shame the angels who watch over you and you spite the Almighty, who created you and only you with your unique gifts, for the sole purpose of nudging the human race one millimeter farther along its path back to God. Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention on the part of the actor. It's a gift to the world and every being in it. Don't cheat us of your contribution. Give us what you got!”

-Steven Pressfield

Choosing to step into our creative calling — and allowing ourselves to fail, fall on our face, and embrace imperfect action — is one of the clearest ways we exercise the gifts God has blessed us with.

That’s a major reason why I started this blog.

Honestly, I couldn’t tell you the full plan I had for it beyond simply deciding to START.

Most days, I still wonder why anyone would want to tune into the lessons, failures, and life experiences of a 22-year-old who’s still figuring things out himself. But I chose to begin because I felt something pulling me in this direction.

I’m naturally a private person, so truthfully, I still don’t fully understand how I’m even doing this.

Not because I have life figured out — because none of us ever truly will — but because I might as well “give ‘em what I got,” as Steven Pressfield says.

Your dream won’t make sense to everyone, because it’s not their dream — it’s yours.

But never underestimate the impact your calling can have on the world, or the lessons you may learn through pursuing it.

Start.
