My personal experience and thoughts on anxiety

Anxiety is one of the most minimized struggles people talk about. Some who experience it use it as a crutch—a “woe is me” mindset that convinces them the world just isn’t working in their favor. Others feel it deeply, yet try to push it away or ignore it.

But the truth is, most people know it. Most people feel it. And still, many minimize the weight of the pain and suffering it quietly causes in their lives every single day.

It’s become socially acceptable to say, “I have anxiety.” And yes, there is nervousness, stress, and everyday worry. But I’m talking about something deeper—the kind of anxiety that feels overwhelming, the kind that makes it seem almost impossible to overcome.

I won’t go into every detail, but although I had experienced anxiety growing up, I didn’t truly face it until about a year ago. And I’ll tell you—I was beat down, broken, and lost. I couldn’t make sense of anything. I couldn’t sleep. There were nights I found myself on the floor, crying out to God, asking, seeking, and trying to understand what was happening.

What I came to realize was this: I had placed the weight of the world on my own shoulders—just like so many of us do.

Some might say that anxiety, in part, can be an act of trying to take control away from God—believing we must carry everything ourselves, manage every outcome, and direct every step of our lives. In a way, it’s placing ourselves in a position we were never meant to hold.

Because the truth is—we were never meant to carry those burdens.

This is a verse I come back to daily when I feel discouraged:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:6–7

For some, anxiety may never fully disappear—and I understand that it can be a daily battle. But I can say this from personal experience: when I come to a place of true surrender—laying down my worries, doubts, fears, and anxieties before God—I experience a peace unlike anything else.

So as you go about your week, if something is weighing heavily on your heart:

  1. Have the courage to bring it before God and surrender it.

  2. Seek His goodness and His peace—even in the middle of the pain.
